Title Reseach- Coraline
The website artofthetitle.com helped me research this title.
- What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?
The first title shown in this sequence is the main production company's, two of them are named then it shows a production associated with the film. It fades to the name of the film. Then it names all the actors that took part in the main roles, some named together. The sequence then names all of the lead animators and the concept artist. The film shows all of the art directors named together then the storyboard supervisor. The editors are then named, following that is the visual effects and a feature of the music artist. they name the animation supervisor and the directors of photography. Lastly it names the individual small producers and the novel it was based on, ending the scene with the director and writer of the film
- What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
The opening sequence starts with a rustic leather background with lace covering all four corners as titles appear on screen. Then a doll is shown as metal hands collect it and take all of its details and stitching apart. Unstuffing it and filling the blank doll with a rice, laying it on a work table. The metal spindly hands work delicately to detail the doll. Buttons are very prioritized in this sequence and are close up. The scene ends as the hands create a new doll foreshadowing the main character and dropping it into a starry sky.
- How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the ou
The feeling of horror was portrayed from disassembling the doll. It shows destruction in the movie. Also the lighting is a dim yellow which is popular in the horror genre as it symbolizes corpses. The unnerving detail put into the doll is unsettling as the viewer does not know what the doll is for. The spindly scary hands truly add the entire horror aspect for me, as those hands are not human and they are very sharp as they work gently. The music in the back is singing children with a hum of music, the music adds a lot to the scene as it can only be described as creepy.
